The Staff Satellite Battery Electro‑Mechanical Engineer will participate in the development, building, and testing of E‑Space satellite battery hardware. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering with at least 5 years of electro‑mechanical design including battery pack design and mechanical work. This position will report to the Electro‑Mechanical Engineering Lead and will work closely with the Electrical, Mechanical, Thermal, Test, and Manufacturing teams. The successful candidate will be based in our Saratoga, CA office.
What you’ll be doing:
Own the satellite battery product from clean sheet to flight.
Execute all aspects of battery pack electro‑mech design including battery cell interconnect, packaging, thermal and electrical accommodation, leading design reviews, etc.
Produce drawings and documents including fabrication packages, interface control documents, assembly procedures, test procedures, certification reports, etc.
Design for thermal management and support thermal analysis.
Design for mass manufacturing and assembly of packs.
Execute UN38.3 certification tests.
Perform space product qualification, support production acceptance testing.
What you bring to this role:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
10+ years of experience in electro‑mechanical engineering.
Skilled with CAD tools.
Expertise with battery cells and interconnect such as laser welding and ultrasonic bonding.
Expertise with module packaging including integrating PCBs and interconnect into enclosures.
Experienced with production level DFx and FMEA.
Experience with mechanical and thermal stress‑testing such as vibration, shock, and thermal cycling.
Demonstrated success working in a dynamic environment.
Bonus points for the following:
Experience with UN38.3 testing.
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
Expertise with rigid and flex PCB technologies, packaging, and interconnect.
Experience performing thermal analysis in Thermal Desktop, IcePak, Comsol, or similar tools.
Experience producing battery packs in high volumes.
Expertise with polymerics including epoxies and conformal coatings.
Experience designing for space environments.
This is a full time, exempt position, based out of our Saratoga office. The target base pay for this position is $120,000 – $200,000 annually. The total compensation packaged will be determined by various factors such as your relevant job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. E‑Space is redefining how satellites are designed, manufactured and used—so we’re looking for candidates with passion, deep knowledge and direct experience on LEO satellite component development, design and in‑orbit activities.
