Organizing Manager – North Carolina Association of Educators The Organizing Manager will lead an organizing team to develop field plans, help develop local strategic plans, and achieve targeted membership growth and engagement goals that transform our locals and communities.

About North Carolina Association of Educators The NCAE is building a movement to protect and transform public education in our state. In the last year, NCAE members developed and passed an historic strategic plan for the next four years that includes unprecedented investment to organize and grow our union. In recent years, our locals have also fought for and won historic pay increases for custodians and other staff and harnessed the momentum from those wins to propel themselves into ranking among the fastest‑growing National Education Association affiliates in the country. We’re on the cusp of building strong local unions that restore the promise of public education from the Sandhills to the mountains.

Responsibilities

Hire, train, coach, and manage a team of organizing staff and members in targeted locals across the state, including overseeing day‑to‑day assignments, frequent worksite visits, meeting facilitation, debriefs, shadowing and on‑the‑job organizing demonstration, and leading trainings as needed.

Design, implement, manage, and evaluate plans, campaigns, and programs designed to grow membership, worksite leadership structure and local union power.

Evaluate programs using data collected by field staff and ensure adherence to data collection standards across field teams.

Support an organizing team culture that is innovative, hungry to learn, and inspired to fight to defend and transform our public schools.

Develop, design, and maintain resources, trainings, and systems to improve the functioning of the organizing team.

Skills and Qualifications

At least 5 years of labor organizing experience.

At least 2 years of management experience; experience managing in an organizing context is preferred.

At least 3 years of experience designing political accountability, legislative, electoral, or issue‑based campaigns (preferred).

Strong interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of trust‑building, and the ability to communicate with people from different backgrounds.

Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to be adaptable and flexible in a fast‑paced environment.

An understanding of and commitment to the kinds of trainings, resources, and organizing management support systems that set Lead Organizers and Organizers up for success.

Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, meeting frequent and tight deadlines.

An excellent collaborator and team player.

A willingness to work nights and weekends when needed.
