Overall Job Summary The Data Scientist, Merchandising Analytics will leverage data to solve complex business challenges and support merchandising strategies. The role will develop advanced statistical methods, machine learning, AI, and optimization techniques in areas such as space planning and pricing. The position leads cross‑functional projects, designs and implements predictive models, and promotes data‑driven decision making across the organization. Strong communication skills are essential for translating analytical results into actionable insights for stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
Work closely with key business partners to fully explore and frame a business question, including objectives, KPIs, decisions and timelines.
Extract and clean available data from internal and external sources to develop data‑science solutions.
Build, maintain, and improve predictive models using R, Python, and Databricks to enhance business knowledge and processes.
Assist the team with best practices in data governance, engineering and architecture.
Identify opportunities for automation and continuous improvement within data pipelines, processes and systems.
Stay current on AI/ML developments to push toward optimal solutions.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously to develop new technologies and maintain existing frameworks.
Foster a data‑driven culture and collaborate with cross‑functional teams and senior leadership to define long‑term vision and goals for data science and engineering.
Design and execute A/B tests, including sample size, metrics and statistical analysis plans.
Use predictive science to correctly size each store with localized plans that balance individual store space allocations with top‑down and bottom‑up strategies.
Serve as a ‘Go‑To’ person for data analytics needs ranging from extraction, long‑term trend analysis, statistical modeling and code review.
Required Qualifications
3‑5 years proven experience as a Data Scientist, preferably in retail or e‑commerce.
2+ years experience in predictive modeling using CRM or transaction data.
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics or Econometrics; master’s preferred.
Strong Python, PySpark or R programming skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
Intermediate‑advanced expertise in Python, PySpark, R and SQL.
Experience designing and executing controlled A/B tests.
Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and data‑repository/version control systems like Git.
Familiarity with visualization tools such as Power BI and Tableau.
Excellent communication skills with senior and executive leadership.
English language proficiency, both written and spoken.
Working Conditions
Hybrid / Flexible working conditions.
Physical Requirements
Sitting, standing, walking, kneeling/stooping/bending, lifting up to 10 pounds.
