Senior Software Engineer - Azure Resource Graph
Microsoft, San Francisco, California, United States, 94199
Azure Resource Graph (ARG) serves as a comprehensive inventory of cloud resources, dependencies, services, applications, and Azure metadata, playing a crucial role in powering nearly all Azure experiences and workloads. It underpins key platforms such as Azure Portal, Azure Marketplace, Incident Management, and secure cloud governance experiences, ensuring seamless access and secure management for every Azure customer.
The Azure Resource Intelligence Team (ARIS) is building an intelligence platform to develop AI-enabled Azure governance capabilities to enhance the quality, resiliency, and security of the Azure platform by reasoning over 6.5B+ cloud resources. We provide Copilot interfaces for analysts to simplify authoring complex queries, MCP Servers to help AI agents and users reason over a connected graph of billions of resources and trillions of edges.
As a Senior Software Engineer – Azure Resource Graph on our ARIS Copilot team you’ll develop innovative AI-driven solutions that leverage ARG’s vast inventory of cloud resources, dependencies, and services, making complex cloud management intuitive and scalable. You’ll work alongside passionate engineers, contributing to cutting‑edge deep learning technology that empowers teams and customers across Microsoft.
Responsibilities
Lead the technical design and implementation of custom embeddings, graph neural networks and interfaces that empower AI agents and enhance the domain adaptation of AI assistants.
Develop and optimize cloud‑based solutions leveraging Azure services, distributed computing, and cloud resource management.
Architect and refine AI‑driven interfaces, natural language processing (NLP) solutions, and intelligent assistants like Copilot.
Design and implement scalable RESTful APIs and microservices architectures to support AI and cloud‑based workflows.
Collaborate across Azure teams to build platforms that provide actionable insights and automation, simplifying large‑scale cloud management.
Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on‑call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gain approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.
Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
Required / Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C++, C# or Python.
2+ years of deep hands‑on working knowledge of frameworks such as Autogen, Semantic Kernel or LangChain.
4+ years operational experience in running web application services in a large‑scale cloud such as Azure or other hyperscalers.
2+ years of experience driving AI assistant design and implementation of embedding models.
Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements. These requirements include a Microsoft Cloud Background Check and continued screening every two years.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
8+ years technical engineering experience with C++, C# or Python, or 6+ years with a Master’s Degree, or equivalent experience.
1+ years experience working with large‑scale graph neural networks using PyTorch Geometric.
3+ years experience working with agentic frameworks such as AutoGen, LangChain, etc.
1+ years experience in safety and ethical aspects of AI.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify and explain complex ideas.
Software Engineering IC4 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 – $234,700 per year. Specific ranges for certain locations vary.
