About the Role As Director – Utility Business Development (West), you will be an expert in consultative enterprise sales, responsible for driving new business from electric utilities in California and the Western United States. You will own the sales process from top‑of‑funnel to closing, building relationships with utility leaders in electric vehicle, distributed energy strategy, grid planning, and operations teams. Beyond day‑to‑day business development, you may conduct market research, support internal sales operations, and lead client relationships in coordination with a growing go‑to‑market team.
Core Responsibilities
Own key accounts for the largest utilities in California and the Western United States, focusing on high‑priority EV programs.
Develop new leads among major utilities and inform regional priorities.
Grow relationships with utility executives and team leaders focused on electric vehicles, distributed energy strategy, grid planning, and operations.
Exercise indirect influence to keep projects moving efficiently and on schedule.
Drive scoping discussions with utilities to balance stakeholder needs and close deals that achieve scale and rapid execution.
Coordinate with policy counterparts on regulatory engagement (e.g., filings to public utility commissions) to develop the market in target states.
Create formal project proposals, presentation slides, and other sales tools.
Negotiate term sheets and contracts through final signatures.
Support project management to transition new contracts into implementation.
Collaborate with associates on sales process improvements, product development, regulatory and policy goals, and competitive landscape.
Lead special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
At least 5 years of full‑time, high‑profile sales or business development experience.
Successful track record of building partnerships with electric utilities or selling enterprise software.
BA/BS required; MS or other advanced degree preferred.
Experience in utility programs and a background in electrical engineering is a plus.
Customer‑obsession mindset and proven empathy, initiative, and solutions orientation.
Domain expertise in electric mobility and/or electric utilities.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
Attention to detail, ability to work under time pressure, and flexibility to take on varied tasks.
Comfort with remote collaboration tools.
Travel required as appropriate, in accordance with health guidelines.
Must reside in the Western time zone and have access to a well‑connected airport.
Compensation The total compensation includes a base salary range of $160,000–$200,000 plus equity (stock options) and benefits.
Compensation is subject to role, level, experience, and location.
Interviewers will work with candidates to determine a competitive salary within the proposed range and an equity package that reflects the strategic impact of the role.
