The Opportunity We are looking for versatile, curious, and energetic Software Engineers who embrace solving complex challenges on a global scale. As a Visa Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of a multi‑functional development team inventing, designing, building, and testing software products that reach a truly global customer base. While building components of powerful payment technology, you will see your efforts shaping the digital future of monetary transactions.

Responsibilities

Design, develop and implement observability solutions that are critical parts of Visa’s operational system, while influencing Visa’s internal standards for scalability, security, and reusability.

Collaborate multi‑functionally to create design artifacts and develop best‑in‑class observability solutions for multiple Visa technical offerings.

Work with key stakeholders in product development, infrastructure and operation teams to provide the best quality and high‑reliability observability solutions that fit their business needs.

Leverage innovative technologies to build the next generation of tracing and cloud observability solutions.

Lead a team of system and software engineers. Provide coaching and support to achieve the highest quality of work.

Essential Functions

Work with key stakeholders to gather and refine requirements for tracing and cloud observability solutions.

Develop and design advanced cloud observability and tracing solutions that are robust and scalable, considering integrations with other solutions across the internal technical ecosystem.

Provide domain expertise on the development of user documentation of solutions and implement standard processes in user documentation.

Play a significant role in the development and delivery of new features within a product from end to end.

Qualifications

8+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor’s degree, OR 11+ years of relevant work experience.

9+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field, or 7+ relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD), or 3+ years of experience with a PhD.

2–3 years of experience leading teams.

Expertise with one of the development languages such as Python, Java.

Expertise with system level knowledge: Linux, Windows, etc.

Good understanding of public cloud: AWS, GCP, or Azure.

Good understanding of popular tracing solutions such as OTEL.

Proven experience delivering highly scalable and available production systems.

Strong analytical, problem solving, communication/articulation, and reporting skills.

Strong business acumen, ability to grasp big picture and explain to team in simple terms.

Track record of hiring and managing world‑class software/system engineers.

Experience with Agile methodologies, leading scrum ceremonies and software development lifecycle principles.

Understanding of architecture and operations of highly available and scalable transactional systems.

Ability to manage multiple competing top priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Experience working with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Additional Information This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Work Hours Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements This position requires travel 5–10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, and frequently operate standard office equipment such as telephones and computers.

Salary and Benefits U.S. Applicants only: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is $152,200.00 to $220,850.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job‑related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
