Client is seeking
Mainframe COBOL Developers (Intermediate to Advanced)
to join its Consumer and Community Banking (CCB) technology division. These roles involve delivering critical technology solutions across multiple business functions. The ideal candidates will have a strong background in
COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and IMS , along with experience in modern software development practices such as
CI/CD, automation, and resiliency engineering .
At the
Advanced level (603) , you will serve as a firm-wide technical leader and subject matter expert, influencing enterprise-wide mainframe modernization initiatives. At the
Intermediate level (602) , you will act as a core technical contributor, collaborating with agile teams to deliver secure, stable, and scalable systems supporting the firm’s business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and implement mainframe solutions using COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, and IMS.
Execute software design, development, and troubleshooting, thinking beyond conventional approaches to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions.
Develop secure and high-quality production code; perform code reviews, debugging, and peer guidance.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members, contractors, and vendors.
Drive architectural decisions influencing product design, application functionality, and operational processes.
Identify opportunities to automate recurring issues and improve operational stability through innovation and scripting.
Contribute to the adoption of Agile methodologies, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), and Application Resiliency practices.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mainframe systems with modern technologies (e.g., Java, Kafka, AWS).
Maintain strong alignment with security, compliance, and performance standards.
Serve as a subject matter expert in mainframe technologies and a thought leader across the engineering community.
Champion the culture of diversity, inclusion, innovation, and continuous improvement within engineering teams.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
7+ years of experience in mainframe software engineering or large-scale enterprise system development.
Strong hands‑on expertise in
COBOL ,
JCL ,
VSAM ,
DB2 , and
IMS .
CICS
for online transaction processing.
Proven experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
Proficient in all phases of the
Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) .
Practical understanding of
Agile and DevOps principles , including
CI/CD, application resiliency, and security frameworks .
Demonstrated experience working in large environments with multiple operating systems and infrastructure components.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities & Skills
Experience in the financial services or banking industry.
Knowledge of MQ, DB2 Stored Procedures, Java, AWS, and Kafka.
Exposure to cloud technologies and hybrid integration models.
Recognized expertise or certification in software engineering best practices or Agile leadership.
Experience implementing or influencing mainframe modernization initiatives.
Contributions to the technology community (e.g., internal mentorship, public speaking, articles, or workshops).
