The Macricostas School of Arts & Sciences is home to 11 departments, 19 undergraduate majors, six graduate majors, and offers a variety of ways for students to further their education. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers American Chemical Society-certified Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry and in Chemistry with a Biochemistry option. Position Summary The successful candidate must be able to teach inorganic chemistry lecture and laboratory. Teaching duties will include rotation through inorganic chemistry, freshman general chemistry, and non‑majors chemistry courses. It is expected that the appointee will develop an active research program involving undergraduate students. WCSU’s small classes allow for student‑based teaching and learning and project‑based activities. The teaching load for all full‑time faculty members is four courses (12 credits) per semester. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in departmental and university service by taking an active role in developing new curricula, advising and mentoring students, serving on departmental and university committees, assisting student groups on campus, and engaging in professional activity.
Qualifications Candidates must have a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry or related field at time of hire and have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and undergraduate research. Previous teaching experience is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates whose teaching experience includes physical or analytical chemistry and whose research involves materials chemistry or computational chemistry.
Candidates must also provide evidence of at least three (3) years of successful college teaching experience and departmental service. A candidate who does not meet the above standards may also be appointed provided the candidate has credentials and/or experience substantially comparable to the above experience.
WCSU is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from different backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for first‑generation and under‑represented groups. The successful candidate is expected to value and encourage all forms of diversity, including neurodiversity.
Salary & Benefits The hiring salary range is
$73,912 – $86,231
