Overview As the Laboratory Director, you provide clinical oversight of Natera’s laboratory testing, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and maintaining accurate, reliable patient test results.

Responsibilities

Review, approve, and sign‑out reports for a variety of clinical molecular/cytogenetic and/or oncologic results, including NIPT, carrier screening, PGD/PGS, products of conception and oncology testing on platforms including SNP array analysis, NGS, and other methodologies.

Oversee the review of genetic and CNV variant data: interpret NGS and microarray results with medical literature, online variant databases and other references along with relevant patient demographic data.

Provide clinical and technical support for genetic counselors and other laboratory personnel.

Set standards for laboratory testing and acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensure these are maintained.

Analyze lab data, contribute to or write publications for high‑quality scientific journals.

Clinical Consultant Responsibilities

Ensure test reports include pertinent information for interpretation.

Provide consultation concerning test results and their interpretation for specific patient conditions.

Technical Supervisor Responsibilities

Select appropriate test methods.

Verify method accuracy and precision.

Enroll the laboratory in a CMS‑approved proficiency testing program.

Test proficiency samples in accordance with CLIA requirements and submit results within program timeframes.

Review proficiency reports and implement corrective actions for unacceptable results.

Maintain quality control and assessment programs, ensuring analytic performance for each test system.

Document remedial actions for significant deviations and ensure patient results are reported only when the system functions properly.

Train personnel and monitor competency throughout all testing phases.

Ensure policies and procedures are in place for monitoring competency.

Provide remedial training or continuing education as needed.

Team Leadership

Review and approve assigned work; mentor and develop personnel, including succession and contingency planning.

Handle PHI in paper and electronic forms, accessing required technologies.

Complete HIPAA/PHI privacy, general policies, compliance, and security training within 30 days of hire.

Maintain current Natera training status and pass a post‑offer criminal background check.

Qualifications

MD/DO and/or PhD in genetics or related field.

ABMGG board‑certified in Clinical Cytogenetics and/or Molecular Genetics, ABP board‑certified in Molecular Genetic Pathology, or equivalent doctoral‑level board.

Current California laboratory director license as a Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist or Clinical Cytogeneticist.

Current Certificate of Qualification in Genetic Testing from NYS CLEP.

5+ years in a CLIA‑certified clinical laboratory analyzing, interpreting, and reporting genetic/genomic data.

Knowledge of CAP, CLIA, California, and New York state regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Experience leading a laboratory offering prenatal screening and oncology testing, and evaluating, interpreting, and reporting NGS and microarray data.

Familiarity with next‑generation sequencing and advanced copy number detection methods.

Strong background in genetics and oncology, with knowledge of online human genomics.

Understanding of statistical measures used in genetic testing and screening.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Typical duties performed in a BSL‑2 lab setting.

Standing or sitting for long periods may be necessary.

Travel Travel required: up to 10%.

Compensation $155,000 – $200,000 USD per year.
