Principal Wastewater Engineer – Burlington, VT Hoyle Tanner has an immediate opening for a Principal Wastewater Engineer to join our Municipal Engineering Services Division.

Location Burlington, VT – situated in the heart of Burlington’s downtown district on the fourth floor of the Wells‑Richardson historic building with views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate mastery in multiple areas of significant technical expertise through training, certifications, and experiences over a number of projects;

Engage with clients and secure projects across commercial, industrial, and municipal wastewater;

Provide technical expertise to various project teams and divisions, consulting and advising regularly on processes and requirements;

Act as a top technical advisor and expert in the appropriate field;

Provide technical professional opinions to the wastewater engineering team, Division Manager, and CEO or Director of Engineering Operations regarding project‑related legal matters such as errors and omissions claims;

Drive technical expertise within the discipline by mentoring, coaching, and training others through constructive knowledge transfer;

Facilitate and lead difficult project decisions and technical issues with project managers, clients, and staff;

Understand interdisciplinary issues and coordinate tasks for the full project, resolving complex issues to ensure projects are completed on‑time and within budget;

May serve as a Team Lead responsible for supervising staff and assisting with career development, training, and managing work assignments to maintain effective billability of the team;

Stay abreast of industry changes, rules, regulations updates, and improvements in areas of technical expertise;

Promote corporate visibility by speaking at local and national conferences, symposiums, trade shows, and by authoring white papers and advisories;

Make final decisions on team technical solutions relative to procedures and finished products to remain consistent with contract requirements and company procedures;

Ensure that appropriate and comprehensive quality assurance and quality control reviews are performed in accordance with firm procedures and specific client requirements.

Qualifications

BS/MS in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field;

Current PE in VT, NH, ME, or MA with the ability to obtain reciprocal licenses if needed;

30+ years of experience on wastewater projects;

Exceptional oral and written communication skills;

Salary is contingent on experience.
