Completion of a program in Trade School
Three (3) to five (5) years Journeyman experience operating and maintaining power plant.
EPA Certification for Boiler

Job Description
Answers telephone, radio call and / or pager to receive job assignments.
Performs minor repairs using tools such as replacing worn gaskets, pipe nipples, tightening joints and replacing defective meters and broker water column tubes.
Responsible for all boiler room equipment, under the supervision of Stationary Engineer.
Fires boilers and controls generation of a contiguous supply of steam for all Hospital buildings, thus supplying steam for all Hospital requirements.
Maintains continuous tour of boiler room to observe operating equipment, meters and gauges to ensure that operation is in accordance with specific instructions.
Adjusts valves to control the flow of water and fuel and to decrease or increase steam pressure and firing rate as required.
Adjusts equipment control to correct malfunction when indicated by observation or in response to signal alarm.
Records in a log book meter gauge, graph readings, and all repair work performed.
Performs periodic testing and treatment of boiler water.
Maintains a safe work environment. Maintains a satisfactory attendance / punctuality record.
Orders engineering supplies, parts, tools and equipment.
Interacts effectively with all levels of personnel.
Keeps maintenance records to meet reporting requirements of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
