VITA – Senior Azure Cloud Architect
Location: Richmond, VA – On‑site required: 3 days per week (parking available at no cost).
DURATION: 1 year expected.
Initial interview will be conducted virtually; a follow‑up in‑person interview may be required.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
Advising agency on architecture and security concerns associated with Azure, including in‑place migrations/refactoring.
Providing recommendations on lift‑and‑shift, on‑premise to cloud‑native migrations, and refactoring within Azure environments.
Conducting testing in Azure to demonstrate a minimal viable product of an architecture.
Understanding available offerings from COV, MSI and other connected parties.
Configuring Azure services to support agency‑level objectives, primarily Azure‑based services.
Signing a Non‑Disclosure Agreement.
Required Skills & Experience
Strong knowledge of cloud fundamentals (5 years experience).
Knowledge of single and multi‑cloud strategies and implications (5 years experience).
Experience designing cloud solutions that meet business requirements (5 years experience).
Strong knowledge of Azure network and storage architectures (5 years experience).
Strong knowledge of Azure services such as Azure Key Vault and Entra ID (5 years experience).
Strong knowledge of Azure Functions, Azure Web App/App Service, containers, micro‑services, and server‑less architecture (5 years experience).
Demonstrated knowledge of cloud security principles, including zero‑trust, network segmentation, just‑in‑time access, conditional access, etc. (5 years experience).
Knowledge of availability options; experience architecting solutions that meet RPO and RTO objectives in Azure (5 years experience).
Effective documentation writing; ability to produce professional documentation, including architecture documents (5 years experience).
Experience managing cloud‑based security posture activities: vulnerability remediation, perimeter defense architecture, encryption (5 years experience).
Knowledge and experience with DevOps tools such as Azure DevOps and GitHub Enterprise Cloud (5 years experience).
Knowledge and experience with data storage products (SQL Server, Oracle) and non‑relational storage (Cosmos DB) (5 years experience).
Experience as an on‑premise architect (5+ years)
Strong communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with technical and business staff (5 years experience).
Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect certification (minimum 2 years of experience).
Candidate Eligibility
Must physically reside in the United States for the duration of the assignment.
Must be able to work onsite 3 days per week without exception.
Must hold a valid Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect certification.
