Job Summary Technology Support Specialists II play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation, security, and innovation of the department’s technology infrastructure. The role provides high‑level support to faculty, staff, and students across Windows and Mac environments, offers consultative assistance, training, and recommendations on emerging technologies that support teaching, research, and administrative functions.

About The Position The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is seeking an exceptional individual to join the Geological Sciences team. The ideal candidate brings a positive attitude, active energy, and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Key Responsibilities

Consultative support and training for approximately 21 tenure‑track and part‑time faculty, 20 graduate students, 95 majors, and over 1,500 total student enrollment.

Installation, configuration, and maintenance of a wide range of applications, network systems, databases, and departmental hardware such as computers, printers, and plotters.

Management and maintenance of departmental computer labs, smart classrooms, and servers, including daily backups, system upgrades, and security protocols.

Development and maintenance of departmental templates, digital displays, and databases (e.g., Alumni database). Liaison between the department and campus‑wide IT services.

Design, maintenance, and administration of departmental websites and web servers, collecting and analyzing user data for continuous improvement.

Creation of user documentation and tutorials; delivery of in‑person or remote training sessions for users.

Coordination of procurement of IT‑related equipment and services, managing purchasing workflows from requisition to reconciliation.

Other duties assigned as needed.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience (or substitution of academic experience for education).

Professional technical support and troubleshooting skills, including complex hardware and software issues.

Knowledge of network connectivity, server administration, and system troubleshooting.

Strong consultative skills to assess user needs and provide appropriate technology support.

Organizational, communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills required to plan, complete, and present technical information clearly.

Proficiency in applicable software or technology systems.

Knowledge of university policies, data needs, and data privacy regulations.

Background check (including criminal records) must be completed satisfactorily.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of educational computing systems and educational multimedia and application software.

Understanding of college business processes.

Effective communication with the college community.

Ability to provide instructional training to faculty, staff, and students.
