The Director of Communications is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing strategic communications that promote Intermountain Health's mission, vision, values, reputation, and brand. This role leads internal and external communications, crisis communications, media relations, social media, branding initiatives, and community relationships, ensuring consistency and quality across all channels. The Director oversees high-priority strategies with significant ROI, works with a broad scope across departments and functions, and covers a broad geographical area. The position collaborates with stakeholders at multiple levels, supports cross‑functional teams, and manages high‑visibility, high‑profile work often in support of senior leaders. The Director also oversees a portfolio requiring significant decision‑making authority and provides direct support to the Region VP of MarCom. Desert Region Responsibilities

Serves as the MarCom liaison with the Region Executive Team. Coordinates and strategizes with Region Executive Team members including the region president, market presidents and ambulatory care leaders. Oversees functions and work and caregivers in the Southwest Utah Market and, in partnership with the Canyons Region, oversees community relationships and internal communications. Supports MarCom functions for the planning of a children’s hospital in the Nevada market. Reports to the VP of MarCom for the Canyons and Desert Regions. Essential Functions

Lead and manage a team of communications professionals, providing strategic guidance, feedback, and coaching, while overseeing a comprehensive portfolio of work with significant decision‑making authority. Develop and direct integrated communications plans that align with and advance Intermountain Health's strategic goals, priorities, and initiatives, ensuring the execution of high‑priority strategies with substantial ROI. Direct and strategize crisis communications planning at hospitals and clinics (including children’s hospital work), ensuring support for multiple functions and teams within both acute and ambulatory care. Provide strategic communications support and guidance to senior leaders, departments, and teams across the organization, fostering collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders at multiple levels. Strategically enhance Intermountain Health's reputation and image among key stakeholders, including employees, patients, providers, media, partners, opinion leaders, and the public. Monitor, measure, and analyze the effectiveness and impact of communications activities and campaigns, using data and analytics to inform strategic decision‑making and continuous improvement, covering a broad geographical area. Build and maintain strong, strategic relationships with local, regional, and national opinion leaders and media outlets, serving as a primary spokesperson for Intermountain Health, and ensuring communications have a broad scope across departments and functions. Strategically write, edit, and approve newsletters, articles, speeches, presentations, and other communications materials, providing direct and strategic support to the Region VP of MarCom. Skills

Advanced experience in communications, media relations, journalism, public relations, or related field, with expertise in writing, editing, and creating impactful marketing/communications plans. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, crafting clear, concise, and compelling messages for various audiences and platforms. Advanced leadership and management skills, inspiring, motivating, and developing a high‑performing team. Advanced strategic and creative thinking, developing and implementing innovative communications solutions through collaboration and relationship‑building. Advanced critical thinking and problem‑solving, analyzing complex situations, identifying opportunities, and implementing solutions. Experience leading and communicating through crisis situations. Project leadership and organizational skills, planning, prioritizing, and executing multiple projects within deadlines and budgets. Media relations and public relations skills, leading pitching stories and responding to inquiries. Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, English or related field from an accredited university. Education is verified. Experience in healthcare industry. Additional Information

This is an exempt, full‑time position. Pay offers are determined by prior years of relevant experience within the established pay range. In addition to the annual salary, a sign‑on and relocation bonus may be offered when applicable. Participants are eligible to receive an Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) award based on board‑approved goals. Physical Requirements

Ongoing need to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and assess customer needs. Frequent interaction with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors requiring verbal communication. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy; frequent computer use for typing and accessing needed information. Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles. Location
