Overview Our client is seeking a highly skilled
Senior Database Administrator (DBA)
to support modernization, upgrades, and documentation efforts across their SQL Server and reporting environments. This role will collaborate closely with the client’s Senior DBAs and technical teams to enhance reliability, performance, and documentation of mission‑critical database systems and related infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Review and analyze existing database systems and applications to collect knowledge for troubleshooting, development, and planning purposes.
Identify performance or configuration improvements that align with modernization objectives.
Review, update, and maintain documentation for databases and related infrastructure.
Ensure documentation includes dependencies, configurations, and processes supporting
Central Reporting
(the client’s Power BI reporting portal).
Update and maintain records for
IIS, SSIS, ETL , and other data integration processes.
As application remediations are identified, work with Senior DBAs and cross‑functional teams to implement updates and ensure documentation reflects all changes.
Plan, execute, and validate
in‑place upgrades of SQL Server 2019
environments.
Conduct testing and remediation of any issues that arise post‑upgrade to ensure stability and performance.
Review and document existing
SSRS and Power BI reports
to ensure accuracy, performance, and alignment with current data models and governance standards.
Collaborate with reporting teams to optimize report delivery and standardize documentation.
Required Qualifications
7+ years
of experience administering and managing
Microsoft SQL Server
databases in a large enterprise environment.
Proven experience with
SQL Server 2019 upgrades, migrations, and patching .
Strong understanding of
SSRS, SSIS, ETL processes , and
IIS
configuration and management.
Expertise in performance tuning, troubleshooting, and query optimization.
Proficiency in
PowerShell
or
T‑SQL scripting
for automation and maintenance.
Experience documenting complex database environments and dependencies.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills, especially in distributed teams.
Ability to work effectively in a
remote environment
supporting a government or highly regulated organization.
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with
Power BI
architecture, data modeling, and integration best practices.
Experience working within
public sector
or
law enforcement
IT environments is
highly desired .
Knowledge of
data security, compliance, and governance frameworks
(CJIS, NIST, etc.).
Experience with
database high availability, clustering, and disaster recovery
strategies.
Strong understanding of
modernization projects
and hybrid data infrastructures (on-prem / cloud).
