Overview The ILSOS Human Resources Trainer (HR Trainer) is a key member of the ILSOS Personnel Team, based in Chicago, and reports to the Deputy Director of Chicago Personnel as well as the Lead Human Resources Trainer in Springfield. The HR Trainer will perform a variety of highly responsible administrative and confidential work involving human resources training, including mandatory and elective topics for all new and existing employees within the Office of the Secretary of State, with a focus on leading all new employee orientations in Chicago. The HR Trainer will also develop new training programs, materials, technological presentations and assessment tools, and lead onboarding functions such as fingerprinting and benefits sign‑ups. Approximately 75 % of the HR Trainer’s time will be devoted to New Employee Orientation and related onboarding, with the remaining 25 % focused on hiring and onboarding duties and special projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead Chicago New Employee Orientations (NEOs), presenting the full 6‑7 hour program, grading trainee tests, and managing all follow‑up paperwork and evaluation analysis.

Assist in developing and leading targeted training in additional ILSOS areas of need, including Customer Service, Ethics, Sexual Harassment, Discipline, Right to Know, Performance Evaluations, Attendance Monitoring, FMLA, and leaves.

Assist with ILSOS hiring and onboarding processes as directed by the Deputy Director.

Travel within the State of Illinois to support work duties; a valid Illinois driver’s license and insurance are required.

Provide backup for front desk/reception and test room staff as needed.

Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Specific Skills

Professional, competent, and engaging presenter for groups ranging from 5–50 people.

Able to respond warmly, empathetically, and accurately to questions from new employees.

Organized and diligent in preparation and wrap‑up paperwork for all training sessions.

Education and Work Experience Requires completion of four years of college, with coursework in public or business administration, and three years of responsible professional experience in a public or private organization.
