Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, Swanton Sector, Sector Intelligence Unit, located in Swanton, VT. Additional selections may be made beyond the total number of vacancies specified using this vacancy announcement. Duties This position uses your knowledge and experience providing multi‑faceted analysis products including reports and real‑time communications in support of intelligence and law enforcement operations. This position starts at a salary of $50,980.00 (GS‑7, Step 1) to $81,065.00 (GS‑9, Step 10) with promotion potential to $81,065 (GS‑9 Step 10). As a Law Enforcement Information Systems Specialist (LEISS), you will become a key team member of Homeland Security administrative professionals. Typical work assignments include: Creating intelligence reports based on extrapolated data, research and analysis. Conducting data mining and analyzing information by utilizing national databases to determine identity, citizenship, and removability of individuals in accordance with Immigration laws, rules, and regulations. Analyzing tactical surveillance video and imagery in conjunction with sensor alerts and other resources to detect and identify threats and incursions entering the U.S. and relay that information to agents in real time. Researching, analyzing, developing, and reporting on a variety of investigative and intelligence information to support ongoing investigations. Interpreting and implementing immigration law, video surveillance and database analysis.

Qualifications Experience: You qualify for the GS‑7 grade level if you possess 1‑year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Explaining information conveyed to the field on surveillance activities, sensor alarms, and database findings; Gathering, verifying, and sorting information requested by Border Patrol Agents, and law enforcement organizations for accuracy and completeness; Reviewing various reports to ensure accuracy; Informing supervisors of progress, potential controversies, and any widespread impacts; Directing and advising responding law enforcement officers using information derived from law enforcement information systems. Experience: You qualify for the GS‑9 grade level if you possess 1‑year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Preparing forensic evidence (audio and video) for court, establishing chain of custody, and testifying in court; Identifying and reporting criminal history information, federal/state/local warrants, and driver’s license information; Utilizing technical manuals and reference materials for the efficient operation of advanced law enforcement technology including remote video and sensor equipment; Gathering and analyzing data collected through numerous databases to ensure a proper status determination is quickly and accurately made. Education Substitution: GS‑7: Successful completion of one year of full‑time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the skills necessary to do this job. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours. OR a bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) may also substitute for the experience required. It is based on class standing, GPA, or honor society membership. GS‑9: Successful completion of two or more years of full‑time graduate education or a Master’s (or higher) degree from an accredited college or university or an LL.B. or J.D. may substitute for the experience required at this level. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post‑high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS‑9. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through national service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 11/05/2025.
