Summary This role combines deep mainframe expertise with cross‑platform database support and modernization initiatives, including cloud migration. As a Principal Database Engineer, you will design, develop, and implement platforms, systems, and pipelines to enable data capture, access, and analysis.
Locations & Work Arrangement Candidates must be willing to commute to one of the following hub locations with a hybrid schedule of four days onsite and one day remote per week with flexibility:

Key Responsibilities
Administer and maintain Mainframe Db2 z/OS databases, including performance tuning, backup/recovery, and security.
Provide cross‑platform database support for SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and AWS RDS.
Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts for data analysis and application support.
Collaborate with application development, infrastructure, and cloud teams to support database integration and modernization efforts.
Implement and manage database automation, monitoring, and alerting tools.
Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution.
Ensure compliance with data governance, security policies, and audit requirements.
Lead or contribute to cloud migration projects, particularly involving AWS database services.
Provide on‑call support and incident response for critical database issues.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of experience as a DBA with strong hands‑on expertise in Mainframe Db2 z/OS.
Proficiency in SQL and performance tuning across multiple platforms.
Experience supporting SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and AWS RDS.
Solid understanding of AWS cloud architecture, especially database services such as RDS.
Familiarity with JCL, Top Secret, TSO/ISPF, and other mainframe utilities.
Experience with database backup/recovery strategies, high availability, and disaster recovery.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (Cassandra, MongoDB, Postgres, InfluxDB, Neo4j).
Understanding of the banking industry, specifically custodial and consumer banking functions.
Experience with cloud computing technologies, Hadoop ecosystem, and workflow management tools such as Luigi and Airflow.
Experience with agile development methodology.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines (CircleCI, Jenkins, or equivalent).
Experience with Elastic Stack or other front‑end development tools.
Hours & Work Schedule
Hours per Week: 40
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday
Hybrid: 4 days onsite, 1 day remote from a Citizens corporate office
Pay Transparency
The salary range for this position is $140,000 - $180,000 per year plus an opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus.
