Position Summary The Hardware Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, integrating, and verifying advanced hardware systems for mission‑critical applications. This role combines hands‑on hardware engineering with systems‑level thinking and cross‑functional collaboration, ensuring Thunderbolt’s products meet stringent performance, safety, and reliability requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Design, prototype, and validate complex electronic circuits and hardware systems for aerospace, defense, and commercial programs.
Support full product lifecycle development—from concept, requirements definition, and detailed design through integration, verification, and fielding.
Develop and maintain detailed hardware documentation, including schematics, interface control documents, and verification plans.
Conduct system‑and component‑level integration, testing, and troubleshooting using both manual and automated test methods.
Implement and manage requirements traceability and configuration control using tools and best practices.
Collaborate closely with software, mechanical, and systems engineering teams to ensure cohesive system performance.
Participate in design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and customer briefings.
Ensure compliance with engineering standards, environmental requirements, and applicable safety and quality regulations.
Preferred Domain Experience
Avionic Human Machine Interface Design
Glass cockpit design
Tactical communications and data links
Military aircraft navigation systems
Embedded mission computing processing systems
Time sensitive networking (TSN) and Digital Backbone networks
Military Aircraft sensor systems
Aircraft survivability systems
Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science with at least five (5) years of experience in one or more of the domain areas listed below; or, in lieu of a degree, at least ten (10) years of relevant experience in one or more of the domain areas listed below.
Experience developing and implementing tools to conduct requirements management and traceability
Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using Cameo
Experience with C/C++, Python and Microsoft Developer Studio
Experience with Integration and Test engineering, with test automation methods
Experience with SW verification methods and practices
Experience with DO-254 and DO-178
Experience with Real Time Operating Systems
Strong technical writing proficiency
Additional Requirements
Strong technical writing and documentation skills, with demonstrated ability to produce clear and accurate engineering artifacts.
Proficiency with EDA tools such as Altium, OrCAD, or KiCad.
Experience with lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc.).
Excellent problem‑solving ability and teamwork orientation.

Compensation Statement (New York Pay Transparency Notice) In accordance with New York State’s pay transparency requirements, the anticipated annual salary range for this position is
$102,000 to $120,000 . This range represents a good‑faith estimate of the base salary that Thunderbolt Solutions reasonably expects to pay for this role at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the position, relevant experience, education, certifications, specific technical skills, internal equity, and current market conditions. This position may also be eligible for a company bonus and comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, paid time off (PTO), and a 401(k) retirement plan.
