Senior Structural Engineer – Dam & Hydropower Design
Location: Utica, NY (Henniker, NH, Albany or Buffalo offices; remote possible with in‑office visits and travel)

Job Description Senior Structural Engineer with emphasis on dam and hydropower facilities design and analysis. Key responsibilities include feasibility studies, design plans, construction sequencing, permitting, cost estimates, and technical leadership.
Responsibilities
Develop and review feasibility studies, design plans, specifications, quantity take‑offs, cost estimates, construction sequencing plans, and permit applications.
Prepare supporting design reports documenting structural calculations and design, lead design teams, and coordinate with affected disciplines.
Conduct condition assessment of concrete, steel, and earth structures.
Lead technical discussions with regulators and clients and participate in public meetings.
Write technical project documentation and review junior engineers’ technical writing.
Perform project management activities: planning, delegating, budgeting, scheduling, invoicing, and resource communication.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring for junior engineers.
Engage in marketing, proposal writing, and business development activities; potential service‑sector lead role.
Qualifications
BS in Civil or Structural Engineering (MS preferred) from an ABET accredited program.
15–25 years of experience in structural engineering with emphasis on dam and hydropower facilities design and analysis.
Licensed Professional Engineer and ability to obtain reciprocity.
Experience preparing and reviewing construction drawings and technical specifications.
Project management/supervisory experience.
Progressive experience in structural analysis and design of concrete and steel structures – dams, hydraulic structures, penstocks/pipelines, retaining walls, flood walls. Experience with bridges, deep foundations, retaining walls is a plus.
Technical Skills
Structural analysis software: Visual Analysis, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, RISA.
Finite element analysis software.
AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit.
Proficiency with GeoStudio (plus).
Desired Experience
FERC dam safety assessment and design.
Hydropower design relative to penstocks, intakes, powerhouses, fish passage.
Retaining structures in and around hydropower facilities.
Knowledge of applicable state and federal dam safety methodologies, policies, and regulations.
Experience in seismic assessment of civil structures and/or geotechnical analysis/design. Design of fish passage structures is a plus.
Soft Skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Attention to detail and strong organization.
