The Mortgage Production Manager is responsible for originating loans and leading a team of Mortgage Loan Originators responsible for growing the credit union’s first mortgage originations. Responsible for sourcing and originating mortgage loans, regularly updating and enhancing operating procedures, departmental budget development and oversight, pipeline management, new loan/new member focus, regulatory compliance, training, production calls, development of mortgage business referral sources, and member service. This position requires a complete understanding of first mortgage conventional and government loan programs and policies, credit underwriting criteria, loan documentation requirements, mortgage business development, and product marketing, and should have a working knowledge of RESPA and all related laws applicable to real estate lending. This position reports to the SVP of Real Estate Lending.
Responsible and Accountable:
Implents, manages, and tracks tactical goals for individual loan officers. Mentors, monitors, manages, and coaches the Mortgage Team to build referral networks and meet sales goals.
Encourages growth and loan sourcing channels (Realtors, builders, personal) with each loan officer.
Provide general daily guidance, education, motivation, and accountability to the mortgage originations staff.
Develop, analyze, and complete weekly and monthly reports to track productivity, loan turn‑around time, and pipeline management. Ensures high member service levels.
Maintains a working knowledge of current underwriting, investor, and regulatory guidelines.
Loan originations in accordance with credit union product and service offerings.
Optimize origination territories including branch and other sources so member satisfaction and origination volume is maximized.
Oversee lender credit/pricing requests to maximize volume as well as profitability
Partner closely with retail/branch team members to encourage greater awareness, cross‑selling and increased volumes and profitability in lending activities
Manage monthly incentive plans and ensure timely and accurate commission payments
Monitor MLO and HLA compliance with pertinent regulations such as NMLS, Real Estate Settlement and Procedures Act, Truth in Lending, Fair Lending, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, etc.
Must have NMLS number or be able to obtain NMLS
Produce individual loan volume without negatively impacting ability to meet all other responsibilities.
Works closely with the SVP of Real Estate Lending to develop an overall market strategy for individual loan officers and the Mortgage Department. Assists in planning, creating, managing, developing, and participating in credit union-sponsored seminars, meetings, discussions, training, or other relevant events.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Solid understanding of the Real Estate industry, home refinancing and equity life cycle
Ability to lead origination talent to achieve quality, volume and profitable mortgage volumes
Strong relationship building and collaboration skills
Ability to lead origination team members to comply with federal, state and local laws as well as credit union policy related to Fair Credit, Equal Housing Opportunity, Truth in Lending and the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act throughout the mortgage application process.
Must have excellent mortgage or other commensurate lending origination skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
In‑depth understanding of Credit Union or Bank business models as well as member/customer habits, needs and desired experiences
Education and Experience:
Experience: Minimum of 2‑3 years of management experience within a lending institution
Experience with real estate lending and origination activities, particularly 1st mortgages
Experience leading banking or real estate lending team members to strong results, in particular lending goals
