Overview This position is located at Departmental Offices, within the Management CFO - Treasury Operations. As an AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC, you will be responsible for installing, recognizing the cause of faulty equipment, and repairing, modifying and relocating equipment on various special‑purpose air conditioning and heating units and/or systems that are frequently modified to provide specific and critical climatic conditions occurring in the Main Treasury and Treasury Annex Buildings.
Responsibilities
Performs preventive maintenance to all types of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating equipment, such as oiling fan bearings and ensuring proper oil level in air compressor crankcases.
Inspects equipment to detect worn or damaged parts, tests for refrigerant leaks and proper functioning of controls, and proper operation of heating and air conditioning.
Observes and tests for proper operation of refrigerant cycle for cooling, and diagnoses, tests and locates malfunctions on all types of heating and complex air conditioning equipment.
Assures proper operation, maintenance, and major repair of all refrigeration, air conditioning, heating and ventilating equipment in the Main Treasury and Treasury Annex Buildings.
Fabricates, installs, and maintains complex, specialized sheet metal and ducts, which involves dismantling the equipment and cleaning all component parts, examining for wear and damage, replacing parts and repairing deficiencies of compressors, condensers, evaporators, seals expansion or pressure valves, capillary tubes and pressure or thermostatic controls, etc.
Qualifications
Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
A one‑year probationary period may be required. Continued employment is contingent upon supervisory certification that continued employment will benefit the Federal Service; the certification will occur no less than 30 days before the end of the probationary/trial period. Must successfully complete a background investigation.
Public Trust – Background Investigation will be required.
All new hires must comply with federal ethics laws. A review of financial or other interests may be conducted to determine if they create any real or apparent conflict of interests with official Treasury duties.
Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I‑9.
Shift work and weekend work is mandatory. Position is subject to recall 24 hours a day.
