Join a high‑impact data insights team driving underwriting and claims excellence across Nationwide’s Commercial, Excess, Surplus, and Specialty lines. The Advanced Analytics and Risk Selection Team delivers intelligent, actionable analytics, along with AI‑driven insights and risk selection solutions that power competitive advantage. We’re looking for a hands‑on technical expert who thrives on working directly with data to build scalable, intelligent solutions.
Role Overview You will be deeply involved in querying, synthesizing, and visualizing complex datasets to uncover actionable insights. You’ll support design and delivery of advanced analytics, AI, and predictive solutions that drive strategic decision‑making and a competitive advantage for the CLESS business.
Key Responsibilities
Perform hands‑on data exploration, feature engineering, and model development.
Build scalable analytic and AI solutions aligned with underwriting and risk selection goals.
Translate raw data into clear, consumable insights and visualizations.
Collaborate across teams to assess business impact and deliver high‑value solutions.
Ideal Candidate
Strong technical skills in Databricks, SQL, Python, R, or similar tools.
Proven experience in data wrangling, visualization, and insight generation.
Deep understanding of statistical distributions and methods such as hypothesis testing.
Experience in P&C insurance.
Familiarity with predictive modeling techniques and statistical and predictive modeling packages.
Ability to work independently and dive deep into complex data problems.
Comfortable translating technical findings into business‑relevant insights.
Passionate about building solutions that make a measurable impact.
Strong ability to communicate (written and verbally) complex messages in a business‑friendly, consumable manner.
Education Undergraduate studies in data or business analytics, computer science, management information, business, mathematics or related field with post‑graduate studies preferred.
Experience Typically, eight or more years of experience in data extraction, data manipulation, analysis, and data visualization. Experience with advanced statistical techniques such as business intelligence. Detailed experience with data‑extraction problem solving; working with large structured and unstructured data sets and databases to build understandable and relevant analyses. Professional experience in insurance, financial services or a related industry preferred.
Skills & Knowledge In‑depth knowledge of business policies and procedures, customer service concepts and practices. Sophisticated understanding of creating and maintaining ad‑hoc and standard analysis, including data visualization, predictive modeling and business intelligence tools. Working knowledge to conduct extraction of data for functional and operational analysis and modeling. Strong communication skills for interactions with others. Ability to understand business processes and the data produced by them.

Salary Range: Expected starting salary range for Consultant, Business Insights: $106,000.00 - $158,000.00.
