The
Finance & Accounting (F&A) Functional Lead
will serve as the primary liaison between the client’s upstream oil & gas business stakeholders and the SAP implementation team. This role is responsible for leading the design, configuration, and deployment of SAP Finance modules (FI/CO) with specific alignment to upstream accounting practices, including joint venture accounting (JVA), revenue accounting, production sharing, asset management, and regulatory reporting.
The Functional Lead ensures business processes are accurately captured, translated into SAP solutions, and implemented in a way that supports operational efficiency, compliance, and financial transparency.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the F&A workstream for the SAP implementation, covering design, configuration, testing, and deployment.
Partner with business stakeholders to gather requirements and align SAP functionality to upstream oil & gas processes (e.g., JIB, revenue recognition, AFE, cost allocations, production accounting integration).
Guide solution design for SAP FI/CO and related upstream extensions (e.g., PRA, JVA, Asset Accounting).
Ensure compliance with industry standards, SOX, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Support data migration strategy and validation for financial master and transactional data.
Lead workshops, fit-gap analysis, and business process design sessions.
Provide leadership to functional consultants and coordinate with integration leads (MM, PM, SCM, HR, etc.).
Integrate MM to enable procure-to-pay processes.
Oversee testing, training, and knowledge transfer activities for end-users.
Act as escalation point for F&A‑related issues during implementation and post‑go‑live support.
Required Skills & Experience
10+ years of SAP Finance (FI/CO) experience, with at least 2–3 full lifecycle SAP implementations in the oil & gas industry.
Deep knowledge of upstream oil & gas accounting, including:
Joint Venture Accounting (JVA)
Production Revenue Accounting (PRA)
Cost recovery and production sharing contracts
AFE and capital project accounting
Strong understanding of integration points with Materials Management (MM), Production/Plant Maintenance (PM), Project System (PS) and Supply Chain modules.
Experience leading workshops, fit-gap analysis, and business process reengineering.
Strong communication skills with ability to liaise between IT and business stakeholders.
Leadership experience managing functional teams and deliverables.
CPA or accounting background preferred but not required.
