Summary Provides professional care through direct lactation assessment, intervention, evaluation, education and follow-up of breastfeeding women affiliated with Danbury Hospital and in the community. The nursing process is utilized in collaboration with the health care team to implement a plan of care specific to the needs of each breastfeeding family.

Required State of CT RN license. Bachelor’s degree. Minimum of 3 years of experience required. International Board Certified Lactation Consultant required.

Responsibilities

Conducts assessment of breastfeeding dyad in an ongoing & systematic manner, attentive to the physiologic, psychologic, & cognitive status of the patient. (15%)

Incorporates the nursing process to develop a plan of care that educates & directs the nursing staff & patient in appropriate management to achieve breastfeeding success. (25%)

Collaborates with the health care team to implement the knowledgeable, skillful, consistent & continuous delivery of a plan of care specific to the breastfeeding patient’s needs. (15%)

Prioritizes consultation/intervention/education based on maternal/infant status, learning needs, length of stay, & available resources. (15%)

Utilizes an interdisciplinary approach to evaluate the effectiveness of LC interventions, plan of care, & patient progression towards expected outcomes. (15%)

Provides breastfeeding support & education to staff & patients within the Danbury Hospital & in the community. (15%)

Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

Perform other duties as assigned.
