Summary We are seeking a Chief Engineer II to join our team at the Department of General Services in Los Angeles, California. In this pivotal role, you will oversee engineering projects and facilities management initiatives, ensuring that our operations meet the highest standards of safety and efficiency. Your expertise will contribute significantly to our mission of serving state agencies and enhancing public service.
Responsibilities
Understanding the mechanical features of high-rise buildings
Supervising the work of maintenance and building repairs of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, electrical, and mechanical controls
Ensuring that major projects performed on the building are properly planned, executed and closed out in accordance with standard DGS policies
Assisting with the Building Automated Control System implementation
Approving designs, calculating costs, negotiating contracts
Tracking preventative maintenance using Maximo software
Ensuring compliance of all regulatory laws and guidelines are met as they relate to the operation of the building infrastructure
Alerting management of building discrepancies
Keeping records of building rounds and readings, all engineering logs and engineering data sheets
Requirements
Proven experience in facilities management or engineering roles.
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and industrial maintenance practices.
Excellent mechanical knowledge with the ability to read schematics.
Required
Four years of experience within the last fifteen years in the maintenance and operation of a heating, ventilating, and air‑conditioning system and related equipment in a large commercial, industrial, or governmental building or institution including one year of experience in supervising such a system.
This position may require an EPA Section 608 Technician Certificate and/or a backflow certificate.
