Project Controls Specialist – Utility-Scale Solar

Position Overview:
The Project Controls Specialist supports the successful execution of utility-scale solar projects by developing and maintaining project cost, schedule, and performance systems. This role ensures project teams have accurate, timely data to make informed decisions and keep large, complex renewable energy projects on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, maintain, and update detailed project schedules using
Primavera P6
or
MS Project
to reflect engineering, procurement, and construction activities.
Prepare and monitor
cost reports ,
cash flow forecasts , and
budget tracking tools
for multiple active solar projects.
Establish project baselines and track performance against scope, cost, and schedule metrics.
Support
earned value management (EVM) , analyze cost/schedule variances, and recommend corrective actions.
Collaborate with project managers, field superintendents, procurement teams, and subcontractors to maintain accurate forecasting and progress updates.
Support development of project budgets, work breakdown structures (WBS), and control accounts.
Manage
change control
processes, including quantifying and tracking scope changes, contingency usage, and trend logs.
Generate weekly and monthly reports for internal and client review, summarizing project status, variances, and performance indicators.
Support risk assessments, progress meetings, and project closeout reporting.
Ensure compliance with company and client project control standards and documentation requirements.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in
Engineering ,
Construction Management ,
Finance , or a related field.
3–8 years of experience
in project controls, cost engineering, or scheduling in the
renewable energy ,
EPC , or
utility-scale solar
industry.
Proficiency with
Primavera P6 ,
MS Project , and
Excel ; experience with
EcoSys ,
Deltek Cobra , or
SAP
is a plus.
Solid understanding of construction sequencing, project lifecycles, and field progress measurement.
Knowledge of
earned value management (EVM)
and cost/schedule integration.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with attention to detail.
Preferred Experience:
Experience supporting projects
50+ MW in size
or
multi-site solar portfolios .
Familiarity with
self-perform
or
EPC project delivery
models.
Understanding of
contract types ,
change order processes , and
financial reporting .
Exposure to
battery energy storage systems (BESS)
integration is a plus.
