The Department of Mechanical Engineering at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) seeks a tenure‑track faculty member in systems engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates with expertise in automotive systems with emphasis in vehicle dynamics, autonomous vehicles, electric/hybrid powertrains, advanced manufacturing, and/or vehicle controls are preferred. Responsibilities
The successful candidate will: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses and supervise capstone design projects. Supervise MS theses and provide academic and professional advisement to students. Develop and lead a research program in automotive and mobility systems engineering. Maintain effective external research funding and produce scholarly publications. Participate in curriculum development, assessment, accreditation, and departmental activities. Engage in professional organizations such as ASME and ASEE. Promote inclusive teaching that supports diverse student backgrounds. Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a closely related field (Doctorate completed by the date of appointment). Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. College‑ or university‑level teaching experience (in‑person or online). Demonstrated teaching in automotive systems engineering, vehicle dynamics, machine design, manufacturing, or related fields. Demonstrated research in automotive systems engineering, vehicle dynamics, machine design, manufacturing, or related fields. Research publications in peer‑reviewed journals or conference proceedings within the past three years. Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of effective engagement with a diverse student body. Experience with culturally responsive pedagogy and inclusive mentoring. Academic experience at an ABET‑accredited institution. Postdoctoral or industry experience. Grant‑funding record or potential to secure external funding. Application Deadline
