Description
Performs administrative support work in the intake and preparation of building, construction, and a variety of other permits in accordance with City codes, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under moderate supervision. Examples of Duties
Assists Permit Technician II in all duties including application intake, answering phone calls and emails, directing citizens and customers to appropriate departments, processing code complaints, and other duties as assigned. Performs customer service work assisting applicants with paperwork, taking application information, and reviewing information for accuracy and completeness. Assists with daily inquiries regarding the permitting and inspection process; refers technical questions to appropriate authority. Notifies contractors and property owners of permit status; verifies contractor licensing information. Prepares and maintains various files and records; processes and complies information for building code inspection results and requests; performs a variety of office assistance duties including document scanning and record maintenance. Assists with Rental Inspection Program scheduling between residents, landlords, property managers, and RIP Inspector. Typical Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in general administrative support work involving contact with the public, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Licenses and/or Certifications:
Obtain Permit Technician certification within 2 years of hire. Knowledge:
General knowledge of permit processing procedures and methods. General knowledge of standard office methods and procedures including computer usage and Microsoft Office. Some knowledge of building trades methods and terminology. Skills: Business English, spelling, and commercial arithmetic. Abilities: Ability to perform detailed record work. Ability to type accurately at a reasonable rate of speed Ability to enter data into a computer. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

Work is primarily performed in an indoor, climate-controlled, pleasant environment. Essential Physical Activities:
Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, and depth perception. Typical weight handled: up to 25 lbs.
