Overview: **
The
School Counselor
supports students’ academic, social, emotional, and personal development. You will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and families to create a safe and supportive learning environment. The school Counselor will provide individual and group counseling, help students set academic goals, and assist in addressing behavioral or social challenges that may affect learning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling Education, or a closely related field.
· Valid state certification or license as a School Counselor.
· Three years student counseling experience in a school setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Academic Support
Assist students in setting academic goals and developing study, organization, and time management skills.
Identify academic barriers and collaborate with teachers to implement intervention strategies.
Monitor student progress and provide support plans for those struggling academically.
Help students plan for transitions between grade levels.
**
Social and Emotional Support **
Provide individual and group counseling to help students develop coping strategies, self-esteem, and emotional resilience.
Teach social skills, conflict resolution, and responsible decision-making.
Support students in managing stress, peer pressure, and life challenges.
Promote inclusivity, empathy, and positive peer relationships within the school community.
**
Behavioral Support **
Identify students exhibiting behavioral challenges and implement behavior management or support plans.
Collaborate with teachers and parents to address behavioral concerns consistently.
Conduct behavioral assessments and refer students to outside services when needed.
Facilitate restorative practices to resolve conflicts and repair relationships.
Promote a positive and respectful school climate through prevention and early intervention.

Collaboration and Advocacy **
Partner with teachers, administrators, and families to support the whole child.
Participate in student support teams, IEP meetings, and crisis intervention planning.
Advocate for students’ academic and emotional needs, ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, learning styles, and behavioral interventions.
Knowledge of academic planning, and social-emotional learning frameworks.
Ability to design and implement comprehensive student counseling programs.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
Proficiency in crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and restorative practices.
Ability to analyze student data to identify needs and measure program effectiveness.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
