1.0 Position Summary
Join our team as an Intermodal Operations Dispatcher, where you will play a key role in coordinating dispatch operations for our valued customers. Prior experience in intermodal dispatch is essential for success in this role.
2.0 Reporting
Terminal Location: Savannah, GA
Reports to: Terminal Manager
HR FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Office Hours: 8am - 5pm with after-hours engagement as necessary
Hourly Wage is competitive and based on experience.
3.0 Key Responsibilities
Ensure container placements are aligned with customer needs and requests.
Pre-dispatch operations the night before to facilitate early morning deliveries.
Monitor free days and return dates to minimize chargebacks to the company and customers.
Direct drivers to and from the container yard efficiently.
Quote rates without negotiating.
Conduct yard checks of containers.
Inspect containers and chassis as they enter and exit the yard.
Address any yard-related issues.
Notify Maintenance & Repairs (M&R) about maintenance issues and process work orders for repairs.
Contribute to driver recruitment and retention efforts while balancing team logistics (miles/trucks).
Provide exceptional customer service support as needed.
Input data into software programs, including TMW and Outlook.
This role does not currently act as back-up for others.
Backup is provided by the Terminal Manager Trainee and Driver Settlements/Safety Clerk for specific issues.
Perform other duties or projects as assigned.
4.0 Education and Experience Requirements
Associate degree (AA) from a two-year college or technical school; or 6 months to 1 year of related experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience.
5.0 Skills and Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows.
Ability to understand and follow simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Skilled in writing simple correspondence and effectively communicating information.
Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Ability to apply these mathematical operations in practical situations involving currency, measurement, and distance.
Familiarity with the 24-hour clock system.
Capable of collating time/distance schedules for a 24/7 operation.
Adept at problem-solving through data collection and analysis.
Ability to interpret various technical instructions presented in different formats.
6.0 Work Environment and Requirements
Primarily sedentary work requiring reaching, lifting, fine motor skills, and oral communication.
Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Spending 90% or more of the time using a computer.
Frequent mobility required, including standing and walking.
Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 15 pounds.
Capacity to handle stressful situations effectively.
Most duties are performed in an office setting with minimal physical effort required. Employees may occasionally need to move boxes and perform other related tasks.
