The Sourland Conservancy is looking for volunteers to help research grants. Our forests in the Sourland Mountain Region are facing a crisis: nearly 100% of Ash trees are expected to die in the coming years due to the emerald ash borer. Ash trees make up roughly 1/5 of all trees in these forests, and the degraded understory is not prepared to replace them.Since 2020, Sourland Conservancy staff, interns, and volunteers have planted and protected over 57,500 trees. These plantings, focused on riparian and post-agricultural land and protected by deer exclosures, help the forest continue to provide food, clean air, water filtration, and carbon sequestration. We’ve made great progress, but there is still much to do.To counteract the loss of 1 million trees, we need grant funding.

We are seeking a volunteer to help identify potential funding opportunities to support our programs.

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in nonprofit development, grants, fundraising, or research to gain hands-on experience while contributing to conservation efforts. If you’re interested, please email

volunteers@sourland.org , and we’ll be in touch to get you started!
