Leidos Defense Systems Manufacturing is seeking a
Senior Manufacturing Engineer
to enhance our manufacturing capabilities. This role will directly support critical programs within a dedicated manufacturing facility focused on a hypersonic weapon system. As part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to the success of our nation's defense initiatives. This position requires close collaboration with the engineering teams located in Huntsville, AL, and necessitates frequent communication between both teams. This is not a remote position. In this role, you will oversee and optimize the production process, ensuring efficiency and quality from raw materials to finished products. Your primary focus will be on the Hypersonic Thermal Protection System (TPS), which necessitates coordination with teams responsible for Planning & Production Control, Quality, Design, and Operations. Primary Responsibilities Implement procedures and techniques to efficiently convert raw materials into finished products. Utilize MES software (Solumina) to track, monitor, and control manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance and quality. Generate and maintain Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOMs). Develop routings in Solumina for accurate production time tracking. Identify and pursue continuous improvement projects. Mitigate risks within production processes. Manage production flow and coordinate with MRP systems, including change management. Oversee Configuration Management processes to track changes effectively. Define processes and production flows for assembly, integration, and testing of products. Coordinate workflow and scheduling of production activities and resources. Resolve production-related issues such as engineering changes and material shortages. Collaborate closely with Engineering, Operations Leads, Quality Assurance, and Inventory Control. Facilitate job expedites and material shortage resolutions. Manage the ISO9001/AS9100 processes within the department. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in
Mechanical Engineering ,
Aerospace Engineering ,
Industrial Engineering , or
Industrial and Systems Engineering
with 8-12 years of relevant experience. Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment with multi-disciplinary teams. Experience with machining processes. Strong critical thinking abilities. Experience in Manufacturing, Assembly & Integration, especially with mechanical components. Familiarity with MRP and ERP/PLM/MES systems. Solid understanding of GD&T principles. Knowledge of ISO9001/AS9100 quality standards. Intermediate proficiency in SolidWorks software. Residency in the Colorado Springs area or willingness to relocate. Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Final Secret Clearance. Preferred Qualifications Experience in procedure development and implementation in manufacturing contexts. Experience with composite machining. Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly processes and related equipment. Project scheduling experience, particularly with Windchill configuration management and Solumina MES software. Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. Experience in data analytics and data querying. Familiarity with PFMEA, Capability studies, and Gauge R&R techniques. Experience with Deltek, Costpoint ERP & MRP Systems. Familiarity with AS6500 manufacturing management principles. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
