Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a DevOps Engineer / Principal DevOps Engineer. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL and will support the Sentinel program. What you get to do
The selected DevOps/Principal DevOps Engineer will provide support for the Sentinel program and the Software Infrastructure team to develop and deploy Infrastructure as a Service and Platform as a Service capability. The engineer will architect system requirements, model physical and logical architectures, and collaborate with engineers across disciplines to facilitate design. The engineer will also determine required COTS tools and functionality necessary to support requirements. The DevOps team is responsible for the security governance, risk management, and compliance of a system while it is being engineered for our customers. Working knowledge of Cybersecurity technologies, NIST standards, and RMF governance across multiple phases of a medium to large program General understanding for database design and implementation Hands‑on experience with Python and/or PowerShell scripting Some experience with general Cybersecurity activities such as secure configuration/hardening of DoD Information Systems, system audit configuration, capture, analysis, cybersecurity configurations such as firmware updates/upgrades and STIGs to a baselined system, and risk reduction Position Benefits

Basic Qualifications
Engineer DevOps: Bachelor's in relevant field of study and 2 years of related experience; Master’s in relevant field of study and 0 years of related experience; or an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree Principal Engineer DevOps: Bachelor's in relevant field of study and 5 years of related experience; Master’s in relevant field of study and 3 years of related experience; PhD with one year of related experience or an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree Required for Both Levels
Certification: Current Security + or equivalent certification or higher, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. DoD 8570 / AFMAN qualification at IASAE 3 level required. Clearance: Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope and ability to obtain SAP access within a reasonable amount of time. Proficient in relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) with expertise in SQL, database design, optimization, and data integrity through normalization. Skilled in non‑relational databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra), understanding their data models and efficient retrieval techniques. Experienced with time‑series databases (e.g., InfluxDB, TimescaleDB), adept at designing schemas for high‑frequency data ingestion and time‑based analysis. Familiar with data service architectures and microservices that enable seamless access to and integration of diverse data sources across applications. Experience administering, integrating, and maintaining Data Services as part of the platform toolchain. Experience configuring hardware, services, and managing settings and storage. Deep knowledge of Windows and Linux administration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning with proven automation/coding experience. Experience with hypervisors such as ESXi, Harvester, Hyper‑V, etc. Preferred Qualifications
Active DoD Top Secret Security Clearance and ability to obtain SAP access within a reasonable amount of time. Current CISSP or equivalent certification or higher; ability to obtain DoD 8570 / AFMAN qualification at IASAE 3 level within 6 months of hire. Deep knowledge of deploying secure applications using Kubernetes or other similar tooling. Proven experience executing security hardening on diverse Linux and Windows operating systems based on approved DISA STIGs and SRGs. Familiarity with scripting Windows Group Policy Objects (GPOs). Experience designing and implementing automation solutions using Ansible for auto‑deploy and configuration management. Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management. Understanding of Scrum and Agile methodology. Experience with cross‑domain guards, JIRA/Confluence/GitLab, authentication and authorization, Microsoft Domain Controller, Red Hat IdM, Keycloak, multi‑factor authentication, JFrog Xray. Experience with endpoint protection (e.g., McAfee, Carbon Black, Splunk, ArcSight) and audit logs. Background in STEM disciplines.
