Physical Aspects Typical physical demands include standing, walking, using hands to handle and feel, and reaching with hands and arms. Tasks require rigorous physical labor, climbing various structures, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Team members frequently lift or move objects heavier than 50 lbs. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
Work Environment Tasks may expose you to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, and extreme weather conditions. Noise levels can be loud. Work is performed outdoors and is subject to a variety of weather conditions.
General Expectations
Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within 60 days of employment.
Read, write, and communicate effectively.
Travel long distances on short notice when required.
Work for extended periods in various locations.
Lift in excess of 50 lbs.
Willing to work overtime when requested.
Work outside the normal schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
Functions to Be Expected in Overhead Powerline Construction
Works safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de‑energized overhead work.
Inspects rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE) properly.
Understands use of PPE.
Strings overhead wire.
Sets poles and anchors.
Assists with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, cross‑arms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
Assists in replacing fuses in transformers and clearing faulted circuits and systems.
Works with energized high‑voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect lives.
Maintains company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
Performs rigorous physical labor.
Utilizes company radio properly.
Understands basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying.
Uses hand tools correctly and maintains them.
Follows directions.
Has knowledge of materials used in line work.
Identifies primary and secondary voltage on circuits.
Familiar with induced voltage.
Assists with installation and hookup of single‑phase transformers.
Performs basic bucket rescue/escape.
Understands equipment setup and grounding concepts.
Works at heights and/or in confined spaces.
Observes minimum approach distance and excavation/shoring requirements.
Charts voltage on transformers and installs/removes service equipment.
Climbs various structures while possessing necessary tools.
Uses Kellum grips appropriately.
Identifies different types of line‑work materials.
Works outdoors in varied weather conditions.
Completes all related work as required to finish the job.
