Senior Mechanical Engineer, Fluidics & Disposables Neptune Medical is an innovative, venture‑capital funded medical device startup headquartered in Burlingame, CA, that is building a fully flexible medical robot to enable doctors to reach deep into human anatomy. The Robotics Hardware Team seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer focused on fluidics, drapes, and other disposables for the flexible endoscopy robotic platform.

Position Summary:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will design and implement fluidics line and drape systems for Neptune’s robotic flexible endoscopy platform, balancing design ingenuity, functional performance, and cost. You will carry the full engineering lifecycle from requirements to prototyping, testing, and production, working closely with contract manufacturing partners to meet quality, compliance, and cost targets.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Own all aspects of design and implementation of fluidics and drapes for the capital robotic system.

Collaborate cross‑functionally with other teams to develop solutions that meet clinician needs and performance requirements.

Design packaging, labeling, and sterilization for instruments and accessories.

Select and manage suppliers to produce high quality products at cost targets.

Produce drawings and other design outputs to communicate specifications to vendors, including tooling as required for testing or production.

Define requirements, test methods, risk analysis, and design verification.

Lead technical design reviews and present design inputs, outputs, and open issues.

Work closely with colleagues to share knowledge, demonstrating a team‑forward mentality and honest work ethic.

Generate novel ideas to strengthen the company’s IP position in endoscopic robotics and minimally invasive surgery.

Operate within a regulated, FDA‑monitored medical device environment, supporting testing and report generation for regulatory and clinical submissions.

Required Qualifications:

B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.

5+ years’ experience designing medical devices, fluidics or pneumatic systems, draping, packaging, sterilization, or related disposables.

Experience working with cross‑functional teams.

Experience in design control and risk management, including risk assessment and mitigation.

Demonstrated ability to support multiple sub‑projects concurrently and juggle priorities.

An inventive aptitude balanced with discipline and detail‑orientation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in medical device design and manufacturing.

Strong understanding of design controls and product launch requirements.

Experience with sterilization and sterilization validation.

Experience with risk analysis, risk mitigation, and dFMEA.

History of original ideas, patents, or IP.

Experience driving product from invention to market release.

Experience in a startup environment.

Experience creating and managing schedules, budgets, and plans.

Location:

Burlingame, CA (near Millbrae Caltrain and BART)

Compensation:

Base salary $110,000–$180,000, plus equity, benefits, and 401(k) with matching. Eligibility for additional equity and benefits.
