Hospice Volunteers Needed - Share Your Heart, Change a Life!
Dignity Hospice, Framingham, Massachusetts, us, 01704
Hospice volunteers play a vital role in bringing comfort, dignity, and peace to patients and families during one of life’s most meaningful journeys. As a volunteer, you will be a valued member of our care team, offering your time, compassion, and presence to those facing a life-limiting illness.
What Volunteers Do:
Provide companionship through conversation, reading aloud, playing games, or simply sitting quietly as a comforting presence.
Offer emotional support to patients and families by listening, sharing stories, or just “being there.”
Assist families with light tasks such as running errands, writing letters, or helping with pets.
Participate in honoring and supporting veterans if interested (e.g., pinning ceremonies, coffee clubs).
Support special projects, events, or administrative needs that help strengthen our hospice program.
What Volunteers Do
Not
Do: Volunteers are never asked to provide medical or personal care (such as bathing, lifting, or administering medications). Instead, the focus is on emotional, social, and spiritual support. Training & Support: We provide comprehensive training to prepare you for this important role. You will learn about hospice philosophy, communication skills, grief support, boundaries, and self-care as a volunteer. Ongoing education and staff support are always available. Time Commitment: Most volunteers give 2–4 hours per week, but schedules are flexible and built around your availability. Whether you can commit weekly or monthly, your contribution makes a difference. Ideal Qualities of a Hospice Volunteer: Compassionate, reliable, and non-judgmental. Comfortable listening and being present, even in silence. Respectful of all cultures, beliefs, and values. Willing to maintain confidentiality and clear boundaries. The Reward of Volunteering: Many volunteers share that they receive far more than they give. This role offers a chance to connect deeply with others, learn valuable life lessons, and be part of a supportive team making a profound difference in people’s lives.
