Reporting to the Director of Operations-Teens & Workforce Readiness, this position will lead the daily operations of teen programming at the Main Branch location, while supporting the expansion of locations that serve youth between 6th-12th grades. The Teen Manager supervises (5) special positions dedicated to teen services across middle school and high school programming, and plays a critical role in leading impactful, engaging youth programming.
Essential Functions of the Position
This position is a blend of program leadership that supports the hiring, training, and supervision of staff, and guides program management making data informed decisions.
Oversee daily operations of tween and teen programming at the Main Branch Club, including leadership of 2 Middle school sites and Santa Monica Highschool club experiences.
Serve as an expert with Youth of the Year, Jr. Youth of the Year, Torch Club, National Fine Arts contests, and Keystone.
Guide and model positive youth development for staff working with older youth. This includes age-appropriate communications, use of technology, engagement, and skill building aligned with the organization's strategy for teens.
Host team meetings, guide staff supervision, performance management, and staff development.
Develop and implement program schedules that engage the teen population.
Lead and audit safety protocols and procedures for Main Branch.
Build community and connection through collaboration with program partners, school partners, and community members.
Lead parent engagement and customer service.
Partner with Director of Operations for Teens, and Impact & Evaluation to evaluate program effectiveness and impact. This role will partner with other members of the senior leadership to implement grants and partnerships.
Serve as a lead for key grants that support school operations for expanded learning opportunities.
Support strategy and innovation by leveraging tools like My Club Hub, youth surveys, organization's curriculum and training.
Experiences You’ll Bring
Demonstrated experience developing curriculum and programming for middle school and high school youth with an understanding of SEL and trauma-informed practice. Prior experience working with youth in a K-12 setting.
Knowledge of local school districts in Santa Monica or LA.
Experience guiding youth workforce development and college readiness practices for teens.
Experience supervising and managing either direct service teams, staff, volunteers, or interns. Demonstrated experiences mentoring or coaching.
Strong organizational and project management skills to include managing deadlines, documenting practices, facilitating team meetings, and building a high performing team.
Demonstrated administrative and technological skills for data and systems management, process documentation, excellent logistical skills for scheduling, and project management.
Experience designing and running after school programs, creating engaging field trips, and youth development programming.
Strong writing and presentation skills with the ability to communicate your ideas clearly and for diverse audiences. Experience with digital platforms: Teams, Zoom, Excel, PowerPoint, and case management or databases.
Qualifications for the Ideal Candidate
Bachelor’s degree in education, Social Work, Youth Development, Sociology, Public Administration, or related field is preferred but not required. Equivalent years of experience in these fields will be considered.
Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in youth development, out-of-school-time programming, or related nonprofit leadership roles.
At least 2 years of staff supervision experience, including hiring, coaching, and performance management. Demonstrated supervision of volunteers and/or interns will be considered.
Broad knowledge base and understanding of Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District, Los Angeles Unified School District, youth serving nonprofits, working with government and program partners.
Training and understanding of trauma-informed practices, SEL curriculum, and motivational interviewing.
Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, project management, including experience with Teams, Zoom, databases, and Microsoft 365 related applications.
Familiarity with grants, supply orders, and program budgeting.
