is responsible for directing the planning and execution of large‑scale, complex projects with budgets exceeding $1 bn. This strategic role requires understanding customer requirements, high‑value contract negotiation and management, ensuring compliance with technical contractual requirements, communicating with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, and leading multidisciplinary teams of external subcontracted organizations and internal matrixed teams to deliver the project to meet required safety, quality, schedule and budget parameters.

Responsibilities

Define and direct the development of the project strategy and documentation (project budget, schedule, project execution plan, deliverables, and other contractually defined elements).

Lead the coordination of resource inputs and performance commitments from X‑energy’s matrixed departments (Finance, Subcontracts/Procurement, Engineering, Licensing, Quality/Safety, etc.) and develop activity/delivery schedules, cost estimates, subcontracting requirements, quality requirements, regulatory requirements, deliverable definition, resource plans, and risk mitigation plans.

Coordinate with related/dependent projects where common customers, designs, or documentation exist.

Lead subcontract negotiations and execution to ensure contract requirements are met.

Set criteria for decisions on technical and programmatic approaches to deliver project and contract goals and requirements in line with project governance.

Lead performance of the delivery team, including partners, subcontractors, and internal line and matrixed staff, to deliver project objectives.

Hold responsibility for managing project P&L.

Manage project performance measures (risk management, scheduling, cost adherence, earned value, technical performance, KPIs, and reporting).

Make decisions on acceptability of required deliverables to achieve performance, quality, safety, and programmatic requirements in line with governance.

Shape and lead stakeholder management plan and external communications with key stakeholders (regulatory bodies, government, community).

Create and set the culture and tone for the project organization and lead development and execution of internal communications plan.

Develop and deliver presentations explaining project approach, progress, budget, issues, risks, and completion measurement to internal and external audiences.

Represent the company to external markets and stakeholders through industry engagement, customer‑led seminars, and regulatory presentations.

Support talent development of the central Projects team, including setting objectives and providing training and development.

Actively support X‑energy’s safety culture and ensure integration of quality in all processes by complying with the Quality Assurance Program requirements.

Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.

Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business or related field; master’s degree highly desired.

Professional project management qualification (e.g., PMI, Prince2) required.

15+ years experience as a project director in energy, nuclear, petrochemical, technology system development or professional services industry, managing projects valued at least $10 M–$50 M per year.

Experience in end‑to‑end complex system/project development from concept to implementation and operation.

Experience leading and setting culture and leadership tone for large multidisciplinary teams.

Proven talent development and training capability.

Experience as a technical lead, proposal manager, or pursuit lead to support business development efforts.

Work Site Expectations 5 days a week in office

Travel Expectations Up to 10% as needed

Hours Standard office schedule: 8:00 am‑5:00 pm ET, Monday‑Friday

Compensation Estimated range: $157,425 – $262,375 (based on education, training, and experience)
