Manager - Product & Technology, Technology Industry Group (TIG) – Private Equity Alvarez & Marsal is a leading independent global professional services firm specializing in turnaround management, performance improvement, and corporate advisory services. We are expanding our Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) – Technology Industry Group team.

This role is in the upper middle market 50 million to 1 billion plus range, supporting private equity firms and portfolio companies.

Key Responsibilities

Lead or support work streams focused on the R&D and Product functions during technology performance improvement, growth strategy, or M&A engagements.

Evaluate product roadmaps, engineering processes, and innovation pipelines to align with business strategy.

Assess proprietary platform and software architecture for readiness, scalability, and security posture.

Conduct system design interviews with R&D leadership (CTOs, CPOs, CIOs) to identify red flags.

Engage during pre‑acquisition diligence to evaluate product prioritization, architecture, SDLC, headcount, and organizational structures.

Assess cloud infrastructure and deployment models for cost and performance optimization.

Complete product parity assessments and develop recommended integration strategies for M&A.

Drive Day‑1 and 100‑day planning and execution across product roadmap, SDLC, cloud/on‑prem strategy, BI, reporting, and customer & channel management.

Execute merger‑integration and carve‑out workstreams to ensure seamless separation or integration.

Qualifications

5–9+ years as Product Manager, Group Product Manager, Director of Product, or R&D Strategy/Operations Lead in mid‑to‑large software or semiconductor companies.

Experience building or evaluating product roadmaps, prioritizing features, and aligning engineering spend with strategic goals.

Strong system design acumen, leading and evaluating technical and product interviews.

Hands‑on knowledge of modern cloud architecture, containerization, event‑driven systems, streaming data pipelines, and distributed data stores.

Familiarity with Agile SDLC, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, IaC, SAST/DAST.

Ability to analyze R&D spend patterns and link them to innovation or revenue outcomes.

Comfort engaging senior R&D leadership and articulating technical findings to executives and private equity stakeholders.

Bachelor’s or master’s in Business, Engineering, or related field; MBA preferred.

Team‑oriented, adaptable, curious, quick learner.

Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.

Willing to travel up to 25 %.

Exposure to private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, or merger integration is a bonus.

Deep functional expertise in areas such as CTO advisory, R&D merger integration, SaaS business models, product strategy and performance improvement, or Private Equity advisory around product and R&D functions is a bonus.

Compensation & Benefits Base salary: $125,000 – $190,000 annually (dependent on education, experience, skills, and geography). A&M offers a discretionary bonus program based on individual and firm performance. Please ask your recruiter for details.
