Zurich is seeking an experienced Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director for Energy, Power Generation to join our National Accounts team in New York or Houston. The position is hybrid with optional remote work, with office presence three days a week.
In This Role, You Will
Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws and rating annual rules.
Develop, maintain and collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business needs.
Provide guidance to lower level associates.
Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition.
Serve as a help point for agents, brokers and customers, supporting a sales culture.
Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
Qualify accounts and meet organization appetite with sound business opportunity.
Make broker/customer and on‑site calls with planned purpose.
Basic Qualifications – Executive Underwriter
High School Diploma or equivalent and 5+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR
High School Diploma or equivalent and 10+ years experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area, OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 3+ years experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 8+ years experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area (AND),
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Experience working under time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience working in a team environment.
Basic Qualifications – AVP, Underwriting Director
High School Diploma or equivalent and 7+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR
High School Diploma or equivalent and 14+ years experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area, OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 5+ years experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 12+ years experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area (AND).
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications (Both Levels)
Bachelor’s Degree.
Technical knowledge of Energy Oil, Gas & Power Generation Underwriting.
Established broker relationships (retail brokers) within the New York region.
Sales execution mindset.
Creative problem‑solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Compensation The salary range for this role is $122,900.00 – $266,300.00, with a 15‑20% short‑term incentive bonus eligibility. The Executive Underwriter level range is $122,900.00 – $201,300.00, and the AVP, Underwriting Director level range is $162,500.00 – $266,300.00.
Location and Schedule Locations: New York, NY (Hybrid). Remote work: Hybrid. Full‑time. No sponsorship.
