The Long-Term Scheduler will manage the 13-week and beyond maintenance lookahead schedule, integrating inputs from planning, reliability, operations, and capital projects to provide a coordinated, resource-aware view of upcoming work. This role ensures that long-range preventive maintenance, statutory inspections, resource-intensive corrective work, and capital tie-ins are strategically timed to minimize conflicts, optimize labor use, and protect plant availability. Reporting to the Planning Supervisor, the Long-Term Scheduler will facilitate recurring long-term coordination meetings, align scope with resource forecasts, and update the master schedule in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. This position requires a systems-thinking mindset and the ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining schedule visibility across departments. The Long-Term Scheduler will also support quarterly planning readiness checks and contribute to planning governance by tracking leading indicators for backlog growth, major equipment service intervals, and long-range contractor requirements.
Maintain and update the integrated 13-week and long-range maintenance schedule.
Consolidate inputs from planners, operations, reliability, and project teams into a master schedule.
Facilitate weekly and monthly long-range scheduling meetings with all stakeholders.
Forecast labor and contractor demand based on upcoming work and resource constraints.
Sequence major scopes of work to avoid conflicts and optimize execution windows.
Collaborate with reliability engineers to time inspections, PMs, and statutory tasks.
Coordinate with operations to align maintenance windows with production priorities.
Support capital project integration by reserving long-term windows for project tie-ins.
Ensure sufficient lookahead for procurement of long-lead parts and contractor onboarding.
Monitor schedule adherence, deferred work, and late-stage plan changes.
Identify high-risk overlaps or overallocations in resource demands and propose alternatives.
Track key metrics such as compliance to long-term freeze dates, backlogs over 13 weeks, and resource saturation.
Support planners in identifying schedule-ready work for execution readiness reviews.
Develop and refine scheduling tools, templates, and visualizations.
Communicate schedule changes and constraints proactively to all internal stakeholders.
Conduct quarterly planning readiness audits to ensure strategic scopes are advancing.
Serve as a liaison between tactical planning and strategic business needs.
Contribute to maintenance strategy discussions with data on long-term scope volume and frequency.
Escalate systemic constraints or cross-functional misalignments that threaten schedule viability.
Champion schedule discipline and reinforce the importance of early-stage planning for complex work.
Qualifications: Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience in planning, scheduling, or coordination in an industrial or mining environment.
Strong understanding of maintenance planning, reliability strategies, and resource management.
Proficiency with CMMS platforms (SAP preferred) and scheduling software (Primavera, MS Project, or equivalent).
Experience managing integrated or master schedules across multiple departments.
Strong facilitation and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams.
Formal training in planning or project scheduling highly preferred.
Certification such as PMP, CMRP, or equivalent is desirable.
Technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems common in processing plants.
Ability to identify schedule risk, resource conflicts, and long-lead impacts proactively.
Skilled in developing dashboards, Gantt charts, and schedule visualizations.
High attention to detail and the ability to manage data complexity.
Proven ability to maintain structured communication and documentation standards.
Commitment to schedule discipline and continuous planning improvement.
Experience supporting shutdown or turnaround planning is an asset.
Ability to engage constructively with operations and project teams to influence scope timing.
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering preferred but not required.
