Ministry Director – Archdiocese of Chicago
Position Summary
The Ministry Director is a qualified lay person (or deacon) entrusted with pastoral leadership in a parish. The role provides spiritual and organizational leadership, ensuring that all parish ministries—particularly evangelization and worship—operate in concert with the vision of parish renewal laid out by Renew My Church. The position supports all lay ministry staff, aids governance with the pastor, and oversees a mature, unified parish culture oriented toward mission.
Responsibilities
Lead all parish ministry efforts through prioritization and implementation of the archdiocesan vision for spiritual renewal and mission
Manage all lay ministry staff members
Collaborate closely with the pastor and operations director to align on key priorities and acute needs
Align all existing ministries toward a missional culture
Direct parish leadership team meetings and parish staff meetings, setting agendas and ensuring communication and accountability on all decision items
Ensure that the Parish Pastoral Council and Parish Finance Councils serve the parish mission
Oversee visioning, development, and implementation of parish evangelization efforts, collaborating with the Office for Parish Renewal and other parishes to build an evangelization culture
Support lay evangelization leaders and oversee the Evangelization Team
Collaborate with pastor, clergy, and director of liturgy or music to integrate core elements of parish renewal into liturgical and sacramental life
Delegate liturgical planning and implementation as needed
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Practicing Catholic with understanding and support for Catholic Church teaching, mission, and values.
Master’s Degree in Pastoral Studies, Theology, Faith Formation or equivalent professional experience.
Five or more years’ experience in a parish leadership role that demonstrates ability to engage key staff members and volunteers in team building, unity, and evangelization.
Developed skills in leadership and management; strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork.
Demonstrated ability to foster an environment of inclusion and engender a spirit of hospitality and welcome.
Ability to direct the work of other staff and volunteers to drive key initiatives and programs.
Awareness of and commitment to the Archdiocese of Chicago’s vision of spiritual renewal.
Mature discipleship evidenced in ability to comfortably witness to one’s own faith journey.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, collaborative, faithful, joyful witness, persistent, available, fair and balanced, dependable, person of integrity, sensitive to cultural, racial, and ethnic diversity.
Ability to manage multiple projects, exercise sound judgment, and adapt to change.
