AEROSPACE ENGINEERING AIR SYSTEMS - Contractor/Consultant AeroTECs Engineering Services Division supports and provides comprehensive, full-service aerospace engineering services to customers in aircraft design and certification. The Engineering Services Department is responsible for providing engineering consulting services related to aircraft performance, similarity analysis, reviewing and supporting certification activities, determining test requirements, and planning and documenting testing to meet customer needs. The Engineering Services Department provides several areas of expertise in Flight Sciences, Electrical Systems, Mechanical Systems, Powerplant & FIFA, Air Systems, Cabin Safety, Structures and Liaison Engineering.

The Aerospace Engineer, Air Systems position is responsible for supporting the development, testing and certification of aircraft cabin temperature controls, low pressure cabin air distribution, avionics cooling, cabin pressurization, fire protection and anti-ice systems. This role requires the significant exercise of independent discretion and judgment in matters of significance.

Essential Functions ENG1:

This level is the entry point to this role. A level one should have the basic understanding of the fundamentals of the job. Follows established process or procedures for routine tasks. This level would be supervised or managed regularly to ensure that the basic understanding and expectations of the tasks or duties are met and ongoing. This level requires a high level of supervision or management. Their work output should be audited before release. Mentorship from management or senior staff is encouraged.

ENG2:

This level has experience in the role. Has mastered the basic skill set for the roll and can do most tasks or projects with ease or little guidance. Has a confident level of understanding of the fundamentals of the job and can articulate and coordinate process and procedure inefficiencies and can recommend updates or changes. This level can trouble shoot issues and challenges and may even oversee specific primary duties or tasks. This level could work more independently with reduced supervision or management. Critical or customer facing work output should be reviewed or audited before release.

ENG3:

This level is the senior of the tiers. There is a high level of understanding and skill set for this level. Oversees critical aspects of the position, including cross-functional or complex projects, and can even manage in an ongoing manner primary duties or tasks. This role can audit peer work, evaluate team or position processes and procedures, and works very independently with minimal supervision or management. This level interacts with senior management as needed and is recognized as a focal for some specialty skills sets within their field.

Review and support Certification Activities, including but not limited to:

Create and review Certification Plans.

Create and review Component Qualification Test Plans, Qualification Test Procedures and Qualification Test Reports.

Review qualification by similarity and/or analysis reports.

Review system safety documents (PSSA, SFHA, AFHA, SSA and Particular Risk Analysis).

Create, review and approve ground test procedures, flight test procedures and their corresponding test reports.

Perform Component Drawing Reviews.

Coordinate with suppliers to review technical data, certification requirements and troubleshoot any issues with supplies.

Review certification guidance material (advisory circulars, etc.) and incorporate the necessary guidance into the certification plans.

Support Flight Testing Activities, including but not limited to:

Attend Ground/Flight Test briefing and debriefings

Monitor live flight data, typically via telemetry, during flight test on aircraft.

Create and review Aircraft Restrictions

Create and review Aircraft Trouble‑shootings

Create, review and approve ground test procedures, flight test procedures and their corresponding test reports.

Perform Component Drawing Reviews.

Complete aircraft assembly and installation drawing reviews.

Participate in Systems Design Reviews.

Coordinate with suppliers to review technical data, certification requirements and troubleshoot any issues with supplies.

Coordinate with certification authorities to seek clarification on requirements.

Review certification guidance material (advisory circulars, etc.) and incorporate the necessary guidance into the certification plans.

Process, analyze, and draw conclusions from post flight data.

Identify non-conformances, quality escapes, etc. to create rejection tags.

Make assessments to ensure safety of flight determination.

Document flight test design problems for long term fix.

Generate and review appropriate limitations documentation.

Write flight test results reports.

Complete special projects and tasks assigned by Group Lead.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Strong knowledge of flight test operations and flight certification, including knowledge of aircraft cabin temperature controls, low pressure cabin air distribution, avionics cooling, cabin pressurization, fire protection and anti-ice systems.

Level Requirements (Minimum) Education

Four (4) year degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Avionics, Electrical, or Instrumentation).

Other Engineering fields may be considered.

Experience

Four (4) years aerospace engineering experience in air systems, including experience in aircraft cabin temperature controls, low pressure cabin air distribution, avionics cooling, cabin pressurization, fire protection and anti-ice systems.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must have the ability to sit for long periods of time.

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Travel (flying and driving) to various domestic and international worksites and client offices are required. Frequent travel required to the Moses Lake Facility for extended periods of time during scheduled flight test operations.
