The Hill, a division of Nexstar Media Group, is hiring a Campaign Reporter to cover the midterms and the 2028 presidential election. The position will focus on pivotal races and big‑picture stories that capture the most important political narratives defining our current moment.
About the role The candidate will handle a mix of breaking news stories and features, building sources that provide daily scoops for The Hill’s platforms, including newsletters. The goal is to write stories that lead the conversation, offering fresh insights not yet covered by competitors. Collaboration with reporters across the newsroom, including the Congress and White House teams, is key.
Responsibilities
Cover the battle for control of Congress and the White House, plus other political stories that might fly under the radar—e.g., covering a House race one day, Republican redistricting the next, and Democratic jockeying for the 2028 presidential nomination thereafter.
Write a mix of short and longer news briefs and features for The Hill’s website and newspaper.
Contribute to the Campaign Report newsletter and other daily and weekly products.
Appear on television and discuss complex policies and political fights in a digestible manner.
Skills and qualifications A degree in journalism or a related field is required, and previous reporting experience in a metro or national media environment is preferred. Candidates should have strong instincts for readers’ interests, produce error‑free, clean journalism on tight timetables, and possess basic familiarity with Google Trends, SEO skills, and real‑time analytics.
