What Your Job Will Be Like Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a talented and team‑oriented General Law Counsel with employment law and litigation experience. If selected, you will provide legal advice to the Laboratories' leaders and human resources professionals on a variety of employment and labor law topics, manage outside counsel, and represent the Laboratories in administrative agency proceedings and litigation. You will also have the potential opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of legal subject areas by working with Senior Counsel on issues related to employee benefits, privacy and data security, employment and corporate taxation, national security, finance, procurement, and government contract administration.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

Provide clear, timely, and actionable advice and counsel to executive leadership and members of management at all levels.

Support subject matter experts and cross‑functional teams in developing or improving Laboratories' policies, processes, and practices.

Engage in strategic and cost‑effective litigation management by partnering with and overseeing outside counsel, directly representing Sandia, or both.

Coordinate with records custodians and staff members to produce documents in response to third‑party subpoenas and other document and data requests.

Create and provide engaging and effective employment law training.

Research and respond to varied and unique legal questions that arise in connection with a government owned, contractor operated laboratory focused on national security issues.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range $133,800 - $227,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA‑accredited law school.

A minimum of four (4) years of experience practicing law, with a focus on litigation or labor & employment.

Must be licensed to practice law in New Mexico, or eligible to obtain New Mexico license through reciprocity or in‑house counsel limited license process.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Knowledge of and adherence to the rules of professional conduct.

Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q‑level Security Clearance.

Qualifications We Desire You are strongly encouraged to apply if you meet the required criteria above. Your application will stand out if you have experience in one or more of the following areas:

Litigation, including taking and defending depositions, preparing written discovery and discovery responses (including document review), motion practice, and appearing at trial or hearings;

EEOC, DOL, and other administrative agency proceedings or investigations;

Traditional labor law;

Employee benefits (ERISA);

California employment law;

Department of Energy Management & Operating contracts or Federally Funded Research and Development Centers.

About Our Team The Litigation, Labor, & Employment Law Center offers legal support, advice, and representation to National Technology and Engineering Solutions of Sandia, LLC on labor and employment law, investigations, litigation, and a variety of general legal matters.

Security Clearance Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre‑employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug‑releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
