Social Work Associate (Violence Prevention Professional)
The Wraparound Project (WAP), a Hospital‑based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP), serves high‑risk victims of violent injury. The Violence Prevention Professional (VPP) brings in‑depth knowledge of the root causes and risk factors of violence, including social drivers of health. VPPs act as credible messengers, meeting patients shortly after injury to begin a lasting partnership aimed at reducing re‑injury and setting patients on a path to thrive. Over months beyond the injury, VPPs provide mentorship and link clients to mental health services, employment, housing, education, and other risk‑reduction resources through strong partnerships in San Francisco and beyond. VPPs also interface with hospital personnel, work with policymakers, national leaders in violence prevention, local partners, and staff at other HVIPs in the region.
VPPs are integral to the San Francisco community, engaging at‑risk communities and participating in outreach events that promote violence prevention, which may include evenings and weekends beyond traditional work hours.
