Title: Senior Engineer II - System Protection / Electrical Engineer 4
Duration: 6 Months - Planned Extensions
Location: 100% Remote – PST Work Hours
Job Description Specifies, selects, and applies protective relaying equipment, determines device settings, and develops protection, control, and automation philosophy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Completes relay coordination analyses and determines appropriate settings for substation projects.
Leads the development of protection, control, and substation automation schemes, and specify relaying and associated equipment, including automation methodologies and large to complex remedial action schemes.
Performs studies, prepares, and provides protection documentation to executive management, internal and external customers.
Applies technical expertise and knowledge in developing state-of-the-art solutions for large to complex protection problems.
Ensures quality control and external customer service on assigned projects by providing construction support and coordination with construction forces and proactively seeking and incorporating customer input.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company, including NERC/WECC mandates.
Requirements Education and Work Experience
Engineering degree from an ABET accredited college/university.
Minimum 8 years transmission system protection experience.
Professional Engineering (PE) license registration.
Strong knowledge of relay coordination studies, and development of associated protective relay settings for systems ranging from 12.47 kV to 345 kV is required. Experience with 500 kV systems is a plus.
Experience applying protection system engineering practices and principles in the following areas: transmission line, bus, transformer, shunt capacitor bank, reactor bank, feeder, remedial action schemes, and communication assisted protection schemes.
Familiar with the application of NERC PRC standards for compliance.
Technical analyses utilizing appropriate computer modeling techniques.
Time management, organizational, oral, and written communication, interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Equipment and Applications
Proven experience in system modeling and fault analysis software (ASPEN, CAPE, ETAP, or EasyPower), and Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access).
Travel:
Applicant can be fully remote. May be required to come in the office for project meetings, etc. (NVE would provide per diem and travel reimbursement)
