Mental Health Counselor

Mental Health Counselor , you will play a crucial role in helping students in Grades K-12 navigate their academic, social, and emotional challenges through both individual and group counseling. You will collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to foster a safe and supportive learning atmosphere. Key Responsibilities: Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address interpersonal and family issues that may affect school performance, including providing crisis intervention when necessary. Gather information from students, families, and school staff through interviews to assess the emotional and behavioral adjustment of students. Maintain regular communication with students' parents/guardians regarding progress, challenges, and situational changes at home impacting school performance. Develop and update Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans (PBIP) following all relevant regulations and procedures. Participate in IEP meetings, facilitating discussions as required by the school district, and address specific student or parent concerns in team meetings. Collaborate with educators and social services to enhance support services for students and their families. Manage case functions, which include organizing parent meetings, handling emergency transport requests, and coordinating with external therapists. Work alongside teachers, parents, district personnel, and service providers to develop effective strategies for learning and behavior challenges. Conduct monthly observations of classroom staff to ensure the implementation of IEPs and PBIPs using positive teaching methods. Guide teachers in creating schedules, maintaining student data, and facilitating transitions to ensure curriculum alignment with student goals. Evaluate student progress by reviewing classroom data and providing training to staff to meet student needs effectively. Model effective instructional practices and foster positive communication and problem solving with colleagues, emphasizing data-driven decision-making and positive reinforcement. Required Qualifications: Master's degree in educational counseling, therapy, social work, or a related field. Fulfill all state and district licensing and credential requirements. Licensure may include LMFT, LMHC, LPC, or LPCC. Preferred: Special Education credential or licensure. Experience with special education services, particularly for students with autism and emotional disturbances. Strong knowledge of applied behavior analysis (ABA) and positive behavior interventions. Demonstrated success in creating treatment plans for students with diverse needs, preferably in special education settings. Ability to motivate students and engage in critical conversations to help them achieve realistic goals. Effective communication skills, with an emphasis on conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.
