Job Summary Department of Neurology at the University of Washington seeks a Research Scientist/Engineer Assistant to develop adeno‑associated viral (AAV) gene therapies for GNE myopathy, myotubular myopathy and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The position involves tissue culture, molecular biology, mouse work, record keeping, data analysis, and mentoring undergraduate students.

Duties and Responsibilities

20% tissue culture, including culture of C2C12 myoblasts and differentiation into myotubes.

25% molecular biology benchwork: protein extraction, tissue processing with a TissueLyser, manual grinding, DNA extraction, ELISA, primer design, cloning (Gibson assembly), and western blot.

15% mouse dissection and canine tissue harvesting.

15% maintain records: electronic lab notebook (Benchling), lab inventories (eLabNext).

15% data analysis and figure generation using Image Lab, SoftMax Pro, Excel, PowerPoint, and GraphPad Prism.

10% mentor undergraduates and assist in day‑to‑day experiments.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and less than one year of relevant experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in AAV gene therapy for muscular dystrophies and myopathies.

Proficiency in ELISA, Benchling, cloning, protein extraction, western blot, eLabNext, tissue culture, and mouse tissue harvesting.

Compensation and Benefits

Annual pay range: $51,312.00 – $54,996.00.
